Aged-care voices sought on national pricing

Residents, relatives and workers connected to Logan’s 21 residential aged-care services are being invited to help shape national advice on residential aged-care prices and costs.

The Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority has opened consultation on its Pricing Framework for Australian Residential Aged Care Services 2027–28.

Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority chair David Tune encouraged aged-care residents, families, carers, workers and service providers to contribute.

“We encourage everyone with an interest in aged care to share their experiences and views on residential aged care,” Mr Tune said.

“This is an important step in ensuring our pricing and costing advice remains transparent, evidence-based and responsive to the needs of older Australians and the aged care sector.”

An analysis of the Australian Government’s aged-care service list, current at 30 June 2025, identifies 21 residential services across Logan with a combined 2290 listed places.

The consultation also has wider relevance in a city where the 2021 Census counted 45,911 residents aged 65 or older, including more than 9200 aged at least 80.

The framework will guide Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority’s pricing and costing advice to the Australian Government.

The authority is seeking feedback on residential respite-care funding, aged-care cost collections, the allocation of administrative and care costs and the effects of the transition to the Aged Care Act 2024.

It also wants views on supplements and grants intended to meet particular care needs.

People can respond to a single issue and do not have to answer every question in the consultation paper.

Submissions can be lodged through Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority’s Engagement Hub, by email or by post.

The consultation closes at 5pm on Friday 21 August.
