Affordable homes headed for major growth suburbs

More than 130 affordable homes will be built in Logan’s major growth areas.

The homes will be built at Jimboomba and Logan Reserve, where “approximately 85 per cent of residents earn low and moderate incomes”, according to government data.

The homes will be built for individuals, couples and young families, with a variety of one-, two- and three-bedroom builds.

Ninety-four homes will be built at the Aldeia Estate in Logan Reserve, and 40 will be built at the Eldridge Estate in Jimboomba.

Tenancies will be managed by the National Affordable Housing Consortium.

The majority of the homes will be dual-key designs made possible by government changes to planning regulations for secondary dwellings.

The project is being delivered, operated and financed by a partnership made up of Tetris Capital, Metricon, KDL Property Group, National Affordable Housing (NAH) and ANZ.

Construction of the homes will be completed in stages, with the first starting this month.

First tenants are expected to move in by mid-2025, and the final home is anticipated for completion by mid-2027.

Local Member for Logan Linus Power said the new homes would “make a real difference”.

“Logan has one of the lowest rental vacancy rates in Queensland and is also one of the fastest growing regions in the state, which is why it is vital we continue to increase housing supply,” he said.

“These new homes will not only provide safe and secure housing they will also take the pressure off the rental market – making renting a home in Logan more affordable.”

Tetris Capital principal Ryan Slocombe said the partnership was called “Everyone’s Place”, with the partner companies aiming to build housing “in a fast, efficient manner”.

Metricon CEO Brad Duggan said he was proud Metricon was designing the homes.

“The development will feature a diverse range of housing options to meet the urgent demand for affordable living in growing Queensland suburbs,” he said.

“This initiative not only bolsters local employment but also plays a crucial role in advancing Queensland’s housing goals through sustainable and impactful growth.”
