Multicultural Logan

This month I was invited to Mabel Park State School for their Fiafia Night Cultural Show.

It was amazing to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our community.

It was heartwarming to see the students of Logan proudly share their heritage and culture through music, dance and performance.

It is more important than ever that we promote respect, inclusion and unity in our beautiful multicultural community.

It was wonderful to see students, families and community members come together to celebrate Logan’s rich cultural diversity.

LNP Delays Protections for Manufactured Home Residents

In June last year, Labor passed an act to strengthen protections against unfair site rent increases and unclear contracts for residents of manufactured homes.

I worked so hard to deliver these reforms which were meant to commence in June 2025.

This month, the LNP decided to delay these protections after residents have waited more than a year already.

Because of the LNP’s delays to manufactured housing protections, residents will be forced to keep dealing with these predatory site agreements.

This is disappointing and unacceptable. I will continue to hold the LNP to account and fight to stop these delays on stronger protections for residents of manufactured home parks.

Limiting Good Character References

When I was Attorney General in 2023, I requested a major review of how sexual assault and rape offences are sentenced in Queensland.

It was found that a staggering 92% of rape cases in District Courts relied on a good character reference for perpetrators.

Victim-survivors feel the system values the “good character” of offenders over their right to justice.

The LNP Attorney General has had the findings of this review since December 2024, but the LNP government delayed passing it in Parliament until last week.

This month, Labor has been urging for these reforms to commence immediately. But once again, the LNP have delayed the changes until November.

Although I’m happy the government is finally limiting good character references, I’m deeply disappointed by the multiple delays caused by the LNP.  These extra months places an incredible burden on victim-survivors who deserve justice.
