A smile, a giggle and better health

Barefoot Fish first opened as a pilot store as the Logan Hyperdome in February 2018.

Simone and Wayne discovered the wonderful treatment while on holidays and returned wanting to share the experience with their family and friends.

Simone’s passion for this little-known therapy led her to become an ichthyotherapy practitioner and as a local Loganeer, it was only logical to open the first clinic in Logan.

Barefoot Fish is an ichthyotherapy clinic or fish spa, and they now has three stores in southeast Queensland.

It is the only clinic of its kind in Australia bringing together a unique lifestyle experience and health care.

Clients can come in and experience a fish spa which has traditionally only been available over seas and provide health care, foot health, diabetic and neuropathy clinics and various other supportive health services.

Barefoot Fish visitors come to experience a unique therapy that makes everyone smile and giggle.

Clients place their feet in a fish tank and the small, toothless fish exfoliate and massage your feet, leaving them feeling soft, fresh and rejuvenated. We provide video and photos to clients of their amazing experience.

Medicare supported appointments have now been introduced to clinics with new clinical services, including – general health checks, management plans, diabetic clinic, chronic wound care, and neuropathy clinic.

Clinics work with a broad range of clients and can provide health checks to many that would normally avoid seeing a doctor.

“As a preventative medical service, we can identify potential problems before they become a serious health problem.”

Ichthyotherapy is also used to treat nerve conditions like post-chemotherapy neuropathy where the foot becomes numb from the aggressive treatment.  Many clients with this condition have said how amazed they are at the sensation returning to their feet.

Every store has a policy of hiring school-based trainees who earn a double certificate in ichthyotherapy and allied health assistant; learning to look after both clients and tanks.

Each store participates in or instigates local community functions where we provide gift vouchers for local charities to be used as raffle prizes. Clinics have organised events and promotions with other retailers to support local business.

Barefoot Fish is now ready to franchise stores and make the benefits of ichthyotherapy available to every Australian.
