Families, local leaders and community organisations came together to celebrate the opening of the $8 million Flagstone Community Hub on Tuesday 11 August.
The Flagstone Community Hub was developed by the Logan City Council in partnership with Beaucare, reflecting a shared commitment to providing local services and strengthening community connections.
The hub is to become the new centre of Flagstone, designed to address the need for vital social infrastructure in a young, rapidly growing area and ensuring the Flagstone community feel connected and supported.
The project has been six years in the making, first receiving funding in the 2020 Logan City Council Budget.
Among its standout features is the “Rooted in Strength” artwork that runs along the front of the building, designed by First Nations artist Jessica Skeen.
The design honours the history of the land through imagery of waterways and tracks.
The centre also holds a “playmakers room” for children and other versatile spaces that have already hosted activities including line dancing and Qigong.
Councillor representing Flagstone Natalie Wilcox detailed what the centre would mean for the Flagstone community.
“This building is so much more than bricks and mortar. It’s a place where friendships will be formed, where support will be provided, where local groups will gather, families will connect, and where people will feel they belong.”
Mayor John Raven spoke about the importance of community effort.
“Community doesn’t happen on its own. Community takes effort, just like culture… and it only happens with the effort of people.”
The hub is expected to become a key base for community services and support as Flagstone continues to grow.
Beaucare will play a central role in delivering outreach programs and community support services as the hub grows alongside Flagstone.
Beaucare board member Simon McKenzie outlined the orginisation’s ongoing vision for the Community Hub.
“Our experience tells us the Flagstone hub will be much more than a building, and represents a footprint for the future, and a foundation for outreach services that will grow alongside this community.”
As Flagstone continues to expand, the hub is expected to grow with it, offering more programs, services and opportunities for residents to connect and access support.
With its doors now open, the Flagstone Community Hub stands ready to become a place for Flagstone residents to come together and connect.
