SLACKS Creek resident Hilda Walter celebrated her 103rd birthday with a trip to the local nursery recently.
Still an avid gardener, Ms Walter has been keen on plants since her days growing up at Indooroopilly.
She’s now a resident of Arcare where she says she simply takes things “one day at a time”.
“We used to garden a lot,” she said.
“We grew our own flowers and vegetables and I enjoyed picking them.
“Our garden was small, but we used up every space that we had. I had 90 roses at one point”.
Throughout her life, Ms Walter has maintained an active lifestyle and would fill her weekends with gardening, tennis and walking – all of which she says might have contributed to her milestone birthday.
“I feel very lucky to have turned 103 years old; I live a normal life and I just take it one day at a time,” she said.
She visited the nursery with her daughter, son-in-law, and friends from her Slacks Creek accommodation.
“It was a lovely birthday trip to the nursery and I feel very happy about it,” she said.
“I enjoy being outdoors among the fresh air.”
The celebration included an outdoor afternoon tea with cakes from Lorikeet Café at the Nielsen’s Native Nursery.
“Hilda is the oldest client within our Arcare Slacks Creek community and we wanted to organise something special for her to celebrate this milestone. It was also great to have Hilda’s family and friends there to share in this special occasion,” Arcare lifestyle coordinator Mary said.
