This week sees the return of school for students across the city.
After a delayed start to the year, it’s great that they can get back to the classroom and face-to-face learning.
The City of Logan is one of the fastest growing cities in South East Queensland, with a young population.
With more and more young families calling the city home it means we need to make sure we have the infrastructure to meet demand.
I was pleased to see the opening of the Everleigh State School last week in preparation for 200 new students this week. The Queensland Government has made a commitment to supporting growth in our city by investing in quality education.
The school will eventually cater for 1400 students with state-of-the-art facilities – this is a fantastic outcome for the local community.
The Queensland Government has also committed to a further three schools in the next three years. Two new primary schools will be built in Yarrabilba (2023) and Logan Reserve (2024) as well as a new high school in Logan Reserve (2024).
After the past two years we hope that our kids can go back to the classroom with their friends and teachers with minimal disruption. Our schools, teachers, parents, and carers have done a wonderful job over the past two years, but nothing compares to the opportunity for kids to socialise and learn in person.
It’s also a good reminder that school zones are back up and operating so take care on the roads, be kind and be patient.
I wish all our students a great first week back.
