At 12 years old, Shailer Park’s Mackenzie Robinson is one of the Logan’s youngest entrepreneurs.
The Kimberly Park State School student has sold more than 120 candles and consequently donated $120 to charity.
She launched Kenzie’s Candles in 2020.
Miss Robinson was inspired to do something for her community when she started learning about the work of the charity Rosies in her year six class.
She combined that with her love of candles, which started when she saw a candle stall at a local market.
Now in year seven, she wanted to do more by creating a way of giving to the organisation.
Bit by bit, she has been doing just that.
Two years on, her little business is going strong. For every candle sold, $1 goes towards helping Rosies’ cause.
Yvette Carol was responsible for introducing her class to Rosies last year.
She said it was amazing to see students like Miss Robinson embrace such important community initiatives.
“When Kylie [Mackenzie’s Mum] shared the link to Kenzie’s Instagram page, I was elated,” she said.
“As a teacher, it’s what you hope for – that you can inspire someone and that if even one child can leave my classroom as a stronger, more empathetic person, then I’ve done my job.
“What Mackenzie is doing is amazing and I’m very proud of her.”
