Council offers unwavering support

From the very start of this pandemic, Council has been committed to supporting the efforts of Queensland Health as they led the response to what has been an unprecedented event for our generation.

The health and safety of our community was always the priority, first and foremost as well as making sure we continued to deliver essential services and support to the City of Logan’s residents and businesses.

Our support for Queensland Health has never waivered, but it did evolve over the past two years as circumstances required due the rapidly-changing nature of a global pandemic.

For the past seven months we’ve made the Logan Entertainment Centre (and other venues around the city) available as a community vaccination hub to help protect everyone with almost 160,000 vaccinations delivered.

We’ve now extended that support to ensure our community is well-prepared to cope with the current wave of Omnicron cases across the region.

By providing the Logan Entertainment Centre as vaccination hub, we can support the ongoing rollout of the COVID vaccine for not only those aged 12 and over but also our children aged 5–11, who are now eligible.

I have been a strong advocate for vaccinations since they became available, and we now have the chance to protect our kids.

Last week I witnessed the way in which the hub has adapted to cater for our kids – the staff have really made sure that children have nothing to fear.

What can be a daunting process for our littlest residents has been made a safe, hassle-free process for them (and their parents and carers).

There is a dedicated space with activities and of course Bluey to keep them entertained for the short wait after their shots.

Our health staff have worked tirelessly over the past six months to protect our community and yet they still greet every person with a smile on their face.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, vaccination is our best defence against this virus.

If you haven’t yet had your vaccine or are eligible for a booster, please book in and get that shot.

Just a few minutes at a vaccination clinic could be the difference between staying healthy and feeling the long-lasting impacts of this virus.

Our community is well-known for supporting each other in times of need, so let’s keep it going. Stay safe everyone.
