WHEN Ethel Batol answered the phone to be told she’d won a $2000 Christmas shopping spree, she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
Mrs Batol was told of her lucky win last week.
“I didn’t recognise the number so I thought it might have been a scam,” she said. “But then I asked, ‘Have I won?’.”
Mrs Batol and husband Sev said they weren’t able to thank sponsors and MyCity Logan enough.
“Thanks again for the best and biggest unexpected Christmas gift we have ever received.”
Mrs Batol lives at Woodridge and said the spending spree would make this year’s Christmas extra special.
The four-week “Think Local, Buy Logan” giveaway was supported by the Logan Office of Economic Development, Springwood Mall, Meadowbrook Shopping Centre, and Logan Central Plaza.
Mrs Batol’s winning entry was lodged after she did a quick grocery run to Logan Central Plaza.
MyCity Logan publisher Simon Holt said the message to “buy local” was more important now than every before.
“It’s in everybody’s interest for the local economy to thrive, and if we support each other, we can only improve the chances of that happening,” he said.
“Many of our businesses have done it tough over the past two years, so now is a great time to help them pick themselves up again. It’s no secret that local business is a key driver of employment opportunity, so it’s a great cause to be supporting local business.
“And to be able to give a shopping spree to one lucky family is a terrific bonus.”
