A group of young people with disabilities is about to release a debut single they’ve spent almost a year crafting.
KingStones Music was put together by musicians Kelvin and Joan Vaega to help young people celebrate creativity, despite their setbacks.
The group have all been students at Logan Special School and the words to the chorus of their song send a powerful message:
Living with a Disability
Don’t you know there’s nothing wrong with me
You judge me with your eyes so you will see
Ohh I’m gonna make it, I’m gonna fly
“We’ve worked with a small group, so we can give them the best of our attention,” Mr Vaega, a professional musician who does weddings and other gigs, said.
“We’ve cranked up this program which gives everyone a chance to express themselves and to tell their stories. They just chill and it’s wonderful.”
The song was written collectively by the group and will be released on all public channels such as Spotify and others.
Mr Vaega said any money raised will go back into the program.
“You should see our vision board,” he said. “We want to take this show on the road. We do covers, and it’s a real dance party. We want to travel all over Australia and the world. If you get a chance, come and see us.”
