Labor’s Powering Australia plan while better than the business as usual approach of the Morrison Government will see our future doomed to that of a world that is unsuitable for life as we now know it well before the end of this century. Business as usual will see escalating catastophic consequences by as early as 2050.
The urgency of the climate crisis requires us to keep stepping up our ambition. Should Labor win the election they should get on with reaching 43% emissions reductions as quickly as possible, then significantly strengthen its 2030 emissions reduction target.
Labor’s present target falls well short of what the science says is necessary to limit global warming and avoid catastrophic climate change. To avoid catastrophe we must cut emissions by 75% below 2005 levels by 2030, and reach net zero no later than 2035. The science is very clear!
Our future depends on no new fossil fuel projects of any kind being approved ever again!
Financial institutions who approve funding for such projects should be thought of as criminals!
Failure to listen to the science by our government will lead to your children and grand children being born to live a catastrophe ridden existence that will result in the total collapse of our civilisation and an existentential threat to all life on this planet.
