Now that Covid-19 has presented us with yet another curve ball we need to remain calm and stay the course.
As we’ve seen the emergence of a new Covid-19 variant it is a good reminder we can never become too complacent with this virus.
Like we’ve done so well already we need to be united as a community, and we need to show patience and care for one and another.
What emerges from the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 will yet again test us, especially as Christmas approaches and we all look forward to holidays, border openings and the opportunity to reunite with loved ones.
But this isn’t the first hurdle we faced and as a city we’ve done a great job of protecting ourselves and each other.
More than 85 per cent of our community have received their first vaccination and close to 75 percent their second.
Australia has always been known as the lucky country – we truly are. We are one of the most prepared countries in the world to deal with this pandemic.
We have world-class medical facilities and the opportunity to protect ourselves and our community.
With the Queensland border set to open any day now the message has been clear – get jabbed and get protected.
Let’s make sure we are bringing people together this Christmas and not forcing them apart.
Together, we can get through this.
