From New Farm to Tanah Merah, with love

The owners of an elegant 100-year-old Queenslander sitting on top of a private hilltop in Tanah Merah have put their beloved property on the market after moving the house there from Brisbane more than 20 years ago.

In 1995, the Queenslander arrived on the property in two pieces on the back of a haulage truck from its original location of New Farm in Brisbane, where it was built around a century ago.

The home was then cut in half and moved to Pohon Drive, where it stands today in an open pocket surrounded by bushland with views across the Tanah Merah.

“The whole house got transported from New Farm to there, and it’s probably about 100 years old, so it’s pre-war,” the property agent Johnson Teo from Ray White Springwood said.

“It’s been reconstructed and refurbed back to its former glory.”

The property has the feel of a regional retreat, even though it is situated in the middle of Logan on 21 acres within half-an-hour drive of Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The current owners took on the Queenslander as a renovation project. They aimed to create a fresh, updated look while respecting the period features.

The layout of the property has been designed to make a focal point out of the home. From the double gated entrance, a resort-style driveway meets a private roundabout landscaped with palm trees and boulders. To the left of that, the eye is instantly drawn to the all-white Queenslander surrounded by manicured lawn and tropical garden beds.

The driveway breaks off from the roundabout and heads out of view behind the pool area and house. It finishes at a six-car garage and an office space, which is connected to a self-contained studio.

The home has been slightly offset to optimise the outlook across Tanah Merah from the bedrooms, kitchen, and living areas. The front veranda wraps around the home’s façade. Inside there are four bedrooms and a combined kitchen and living space that opens onto a large balcony extension, which is currently used as an alfresco entertainment space. This also leads to the outdoor entertainment and pool area, complete with a pavilion. The downstairs area has been converted into a rumpus, storage room, and two-car garage.

While the home’s orientation and design allow for good circulation, it is also fully air conditioned.

The fit-out includes intercom security for the gated entrance, a contemporary kitchen, and security screens.

The land backs onto the major arterial road of the Pacific Motorway; however, the elevation and surrounding bushland helps buffer the noise.

There is also opportunity to develop the block with zoning permitting 2,000sqm of subdivisions.
