Property owners settle overdue rates

Out of 13 properties that were slated for auction last Thursday for not paying council rates, none landed under the hammer.

Properties were advertised by Logan City Council as per legislation, and were set to be seized and sold, unless owners of the properties could either pay rates or negotiate terms of payment.

September 30 was the last day for owners of the properties to act on overdue property rates of three or more years.

One of the properties was Sierra Lodge, a functioning boutique equestrian agistment and training centre at Miller Rd, Logan Village.

The centre has 20 stables, an automatic watering system, lights, security, arenas, round yard, float parking and 24/7 on site management.

A Logan City Council spokesperson said on Friday it was rare for council to go through with the auctions because most people settle before it gets to that.

That happened in this instance as well.

“No properties were sold at auction as all outstanding accounts were paid,” a council spokesperson said.

“The sale of the land process is now finalised.”
