Suspended slab in fast forward

For some, pouring cement might be akin to watching grass grow.

But throw in a timelapse camera and things start to speed up. That’s what’s happened at Springwood Mall, where they’ve captured the milestone of stage one of the new undercroft car park’s suspended slab being poured, while external changes to the Eastern entry have started this week.

About 70 trucks worth of concrete was laid over several hours from 4.30am on Friday September 24, with the construction team starting early to beat the heat.

The suspended slab will form the roof of the expanded undercroft car park and the floor of the new external car park outside of Woolworths, which will be fitted with new shade structures on completion.

Work also began this week the Eastern entry of the centre located closest to Target, with the stairs and doors closed off for important structural changes that are necessary to the redevelopment.

Springwood Mall marketing manager Donna O’Neill said Ray White, Ispa Kebabs and Soon Kitchen would still be accessible externally via the ramps in front of Ray White and Soon Kitchen.

“However, access to Target, Kaisercraft, King of the Pack Tobacconist, EB Games and Mobile Hut, can also be accessed via the ramps or accessed from inside the centre and via the Western entry near Woolworths.

“We ask for everyone’s cooperation, patience and understanding while the work is underway so that we can evolve Springwood Mall into a better centre and we thank you for supporting our local retailers.”

Target, Woolworths and all retailers at Springwood Mall will continue to trade as normal during these changes, with customer car parking available in the undercroft car park directly underneath Woolworths or in the car park outside of Target.
