Recalling days gone by at Rochedale South

I enjoyed your story on the changing face of Rochedale South (MyCity Logan, September 14).

I found it interesting, as I grew up in the area in the 1950s, living first (in an army hut), in Underwood Road, I believe before it was named, and then around the corner in 1012 Rochedale Road, later renumbered to 886 Rochedale Road.

My family owned a few acres on the corner of Underwood and Rochedale Roads. My dad grew many fruit trees, and small crops for our large family. He and an uncle cleared it all with an axe. The corner paddock was the sheep paddock.

An ebook was created a couple of years ago, in which my family was featured, (with recordings of memories by my sisters and I) and commissioned by RADF and Logan City Council.

There is a photo of the army hut and my parents and me in Graham Hogg Park in Underwood Road, the site of my first family home. I don’t remember much cattle, but I do remember many farms – poultry, pigs, pineapple, lettuce etc.

North Maclean
