STAND tall, Logan. We have every right to be proud of our success stories right now.
Fresh from the Olympics over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been able to celebrate medal-winning performances of home-grown talent in BMX from Logan Martin, and the decathlon from Ashley Moloney.
We’ll remain parochial in coming weeks as we watch Paralympians from our turf go round in Tokyo.
When we speak of pride and parochialism, it’s often associated with sport.
But this area has many fine schools which are producing world-class talent in a variety of fields, involved with scientific discoveries, research and other specialised fields of expertise.
Tim Johnston went to Windaroo State High School.
Although his exact worth isn’t known, some might say the listing of Li-Cycle on the New York Stock Exchange last week was the equivalent of winning the lottery.
The company he co-founded with one other man has a market value of $1.55 billion.
Tim’s achievements, at the age of 35, are remarkable. He must be one of the most successful businesspeople to have come from our city.
In Canada and the United States, he’s waving the flag for Logan and tells us he’s proud of his roots, those who taught him and those who gave him his opportunities.
Business success comes with the same commitment, training and emotional investment as any sporting success, and Tim remains a humble ambassador.
Logan can stand tall and call Tim one of our own, yet another fine product of our city who is waving the flag for his home town on the global stage.
