No bad eggs floating around

I do read with some concern your article (MyCity Logan, August 3), “Watchdog power a worry” in which a former councillor says extra staff in the Office of the Independent Assessor are not necessary.

This is outrageous. Did he not read that the OIA had 859 complaints in the past 12 months?

What would he have the office do with these complaints? Leave them unattended because they’re probably frivolous and don’t deserve mention?

I understand that he and other Logan City councillors feel burnt by the system. But theirs was a heavy-handed investigation that led to their downfall, not an ongoing system of checks and balances which is in place to prevent corruption and wrongdoing.

The government should be doing all in their power to ensure all complaints are given their full due. If all are dismissed, then we can rest assured that our local government bodies are doing the right thing.

This way, we’ll know no bad eggs are floating around in the council chambers.
