Motorists having their cars serviced at a Slacks Creek workshop can now see photographs of potential problems, rather than relying solely on a mechanic’s explanation.
JAX Tyres & Auto introduced its digital inspection system, JAX Inspect, at its Slacks Creek shop in September, providing customers with reports showing the condition of inspected components and any areas requiring attention.
The technology is intended to make it easier for motorists to understand what mechanics find during inspections and why repairs might be recommended.
Slacks Creek franchisee James Sullivan said the system gave customers access to the same information used by workshop staff.
“We have been able to double down on the transparency and guidance that we’ve always provided to the community,” Mr Sullivan said.
“Customers are more knowledgeable and curious than they’ve ever been before, so this digital system is an ideal fit.”
One example involves lower control arms, components in a car’s suspension system that can affect handling and tyre wear.
Mr Sullivan said customers were not always familiar with how the parts worked or how damage could affect their car.
“Most people don’t understand how much it affects the way their car drives or the way their tyres wear out,” he said.
“However, when you can physically show a customer a photo of the rubber bush that may be split or torn – it makes a massive difference.”
He said the system also helped mechanics explain potential problems using photographs rather than relying entirely on verbal descriptions.
“When you’re able to explain and show to customers what they’re seeing on their car and what may need additional support, it really helps to build trust – seeing is definitely believing,” he said.
The digital records have also changed some of the workshop’s internal processes, with photographs and inspection information stored together for mechanics and office staff to access.
Mr Sullivan said customer feedback since the introduction had been positive, although the technology was still relatively new to the business.
