Opinion | Logan deserves action, not announcements

By Member for Woodridge Cameron Dick

The recent horrific drive-by shooting at Fitzy’s Hotel in Loganholme, has shaken our community to the core.

People had gathered to support local sport. They had every right to expect they would be safe.

The incident raises serious questions about community safety and what the State Government is actually delivering to protect Logan residents.

The government talks tough on crime, but words are not enough.

In the 2025–26 Budget, the State Government committed $76 million to upgrade Logan’s police facilities, including the promised Logan Central Police Station and Command Centre.

So where is our new police station?

Almost 18 months have passed since this new station was announced, and there is still no sign of progress on this desperately needed facility.

Our community deserves answers about when this important policing upgrade will be delivered.

We need action to get illegal firearms out of criminals’ hands, disrupt organised crime and ensure police have the resources they need.

But the failure to deliver goes beyond community safety. After two years the LNP government has made no progress on the kitchen table issues confronting Queenslanders.

Cost-of-living pressures are hitting working families across Logan hard, and things are getting worse, not better.

Local service providers are reporting growing demand for housing and homelessness support, with one describing an “overwhelming number of families presenting with complex needs.”

Multilink Community Services, a fantastic local organisation providing emergency assistance, has already supported 1,679 clients with cost-of-living pressures this year.

That’s a 45% increase on previous years.

Meanwhile, commuters have been let down by cuts to active transport connections – including a new walkway and bikeway – along the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail corridor.

Whether it’s community safety, cost-of-living pressures, hospitals or housing, the pattern is the same: announcements are not the same as delivery.

Logan residents deserve to feel safe, must be able to access safe and affordable housing and must receive meaningful cost-of-living relief.

Premier Crisafulli must stop worrying about how things look and start worrying about how things actually are for people living in the Woodridge electorate and the City of Logan.
