Police step up e-scooter and e-bike enforcement

Police are continuing a statewide crackdown on unsafe and illegal e-mobility devices, with more than 2400 fines issued in the first three months of the operation.

Queensland Police figures released on 2 October show officers have seized 558 non-compliant devices since Operation Yankee Surety began on 1 July.

About 1500 fines were issued for failing to wear a helmet, while 157 riders were caught speeding.

Police also conducted 878 roadside breath tests of e-mobility riders, detecting 68 alleged drink riders.

Another 64 infringement notices have been issued since new licensing restrictions took effect on 31 August.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Tim Partrige said police would continue targeting speeding, drink riding, non-compliant devices and other dangerous behaviour.

“Non-compliant devices and dangerous riding have no place in our communities,” he said.

The operation will continue across Queensland, including Logan, until 30 June next year.
