Logan Hospital makes room for 1000 more cars as demand for healthcare climbs

Logan Hospital is building upwards to make room for more than 1000 cars, as new figures reveal its emergency department handled an extra 7038 presentations in the past financial year.

Construction of the hospital’s second multi-level car park is underway, with concrete lift and stairwells rising on the neighbouring TAFE site.

The eight-level building is expected to open in the first half of 2028, providing undercover parking for patients, visitors and staff.

Logan and Beaudesert Health Service executive director Maree Pane said the project would help people access the expanding hospital.

“When the project is complete, more than 3000 car parks will be available across the Logan Hospital campus, boosting car parking capacity to support the opening of our expanded services including Building 4 which is currently under construction,” Ms Pane said.

“A new pedestrian linkway from the new car park will also provide safe and easy access directly into the hospital.”

The construction comes as Logan’s health services accommodate a growing community.

Queensland Health says the hospital’s emergency department handles more than 100,000 presentations annually.

Metro South Health’s latest annual report recorded the further increase of 7038 presentations during 2025–26.

The hospital’s $874.7 million Stage 2 expansion is expected to be completed in late 2027, delivering 112 additional beds, new operating theatres, endoscopy rooms and chemotherapy and day therapy spaces.

The new parking building will join the hospital’s first multi-level car park, which opened in February 2022 with 1506 undercover spaces.

While the original building features a distinctive banksia design, its neighbour will display three glossy black cockatoos in flight.

Ms Pane said the artwork celebrated a species native to the Logan region while serving a practical purpose.

“The façade artworks make each car park very easily identifiable which also helps patients and visitors find their way across the campus,” she said.

The new carpark will include lighting, CCTV and emergency duress points on every level.

It will be owned and operated by the Queensland Government and adopt the hospital’s existing parking fee structure.

Current charges range from $3 for 15–60 minutes to $13 for six to 24 hours, with the first 15 minutes free.

Concessions are available for eligible patients and carers, including people experiencing financial hardship.

Metro South Health says existing car parks and pick-up and drop-off areas will remain open during construction, with minimal impact expected on patient and visitor parking.
