Mount Warren Park has some stars spinning their way to national success.
Artistic roller skating is similar to the ice equivalent, albeit on four wheels and a concrete surface.
Chantelle Zablocki, Kate Zablocki, Jasmin Boulton, Sarah Hamer, Naomi Jeudon, Delia Mozer, Chelsea Hopa and Allison Lacey are all state representatives in individual events, and the club has become accustomed to medaling at national level.
It will have 16 competitors representing Queensland at the upcoming national championships.
Anita Hunt is head coach and has more than 30 years’ experience, including 22 years of competition.
“We have multiple disciplines including figures (tracing a circular pattern with set turns), dance (solo or couples – includes both set pattern and free programs with flexibility and intricate footwork moves), freeskating (jumps and spins) and quartet (team of four doing intricate synchronised footwork and lifts,” she said.
The club has been running since 1996 and has been at Mt Warren Sports Centre, with learn to skate classes 10am-11am Saturdays, since 2007.
And while the club has had competitors at world championship events, all levels are encouraged to participate, from aged 4 to adult.
The first class is free and $8.16 after that.
“It’s great to see the development of the club over the many years,” Ms Hunt said.
“We are looking forward to the opportunity to represent Australia internationally again when that is an option, but also to continue to build and provide different classes for all different participants.”
