Queensland’s rum industry will come together in Beenleigh this October for a day celebrating the spirit that has long been part of the state’s history.
Queensland Rum Day will be held at Beenleigh Artisan Distillery on Saturday 17 October, bringing together rum producers from across the state to showcase what makes Queensland rum unique.
The event is a collaboration between Queensland’s rum industry, with producers coming together to celebrate the state’s place in the rum industry.
Among the distilleries currently expected to be represented are Beenleigh Rum Distillery, Capricorn Distillery, Burdekin Distillery, Cairns Rum Co, Artisan Secret Distillery and Peninsula Distillery, with more producers potentially joining the line up.
Beenleigh Artisan Distillery venue manager Belinda Camen said the event provided a rare opportunity for Queensland’s rum producers to come together.
“This is the only event of its kind that I have heard of where spirits of the same type – rum – come together as a united front to celebrate and showcase just how special Queensland is to the industry,” she said.
For Beenleigh, the event also has a strong connection to the distillery’s own history.
Beenleigh has been producing rum since 1884, making the distillery an appropriate location to celebrate Queensland’s long relationship with the spirit.
“It is my first event at Beenleigh, but I am excited to open up the venue for the public and showcase just how special we are and what a milestone it is to still be standing, let alone operating since 1884,” Ms Camen said.
The event will offer more than just rum, with food, entertainment, giveaways, limited releases and special offers planned throughout the day.
The event is free to attend, although registration through Oztix is required.
There will also be a chance for attendees to win a year’s supply of rum.
