Logan employers are being urged to bring real, available jobs to a council-backed expo, with online data showing sustained search interest in employment opportunities.
The Logan Jobs Expo will target trades, manufacturing and construction at Crestmead on Tuesday 8 September.
In a video published by the Logan Office of Economic Development, employment facilitator Paul Bailey issued a direct challenge to businesses needing workers.
“Come on, let’s get on board,” Mr Bailey said.
“If you’re a business in Logan in the trades, construction and manufacturing industry looking for workforce solutions, this might be a way of doing something a little bit different.”
He urged employers to put themselves directly in front of local jobseekers.
“Come and present your businesses. Let the community know on your socials that you’re going to be there, so as we attract the right people to come in,” Mr Bailey said.
“Let’s face it, once they turn up … they’re out of bed. They’ve had the conversation with you.”
“Get your business there, get it in front of the community, and let’s see how we can help you build your workforce.”
Logan City Council’s 2026 Economic Update recorded youth unemployment across the Logan–Beaudesert statistical region at 13.6% in April, higher than the Queensland average of 9.7% and higher than the 11.9% recorded in April 2025.
It also recorded 199,305 employed Logan residents but only 137,224 jobs located within the city.
The search for work is showing up online, with Google Trends data showing sustained interest in apprenticeships and construction work.
Google Trends data sourced on 26 August showed “construction jobs near me” was a trending search query related to “construction jobs”, growing 80% over the past year compared with the preceding 12 months.
During the same period, “apprenticeship” averaged 73 on Google’s 100-point relative-interest index, versus 15 for “construction jobs” and eight for “trade jobs”.
“Manufacturing jobs” registered too little interest for a meaningful average.
Google Trends shows relative search interest, not raw search numbers. It is a way to compare interest over time, between topics or across locations.
Construction is Logan’s second-largest employing industry, supporting 18,536 jobs and contributing $2.22 billion to the economy.
Its contribution nevertheless fell by $38 million in 2024–25.
The free expo promises jobs, qualifications, apprenticeships and paid training.
While expo organisers have not disclosed how many vacancies will be on offer, the expo format has produced results before.
More than 800 people attended the expo in 2022 and 17 reportedly secured local employment that day.
Council meeting documents from August show the Logan Office of Economic Development placed 304 jobseekers in employment in the 2025-26 financial year.
The expo is on from 9am-1pm on Tuesday 8 September at Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre, 357 Browns Plains Road, Crestmead and entry is free.
