Residents have until Friday, 31 July to nominate volunteers, farmers, schools and environmental groups for the 2026 Queensland Landcare Awards.
The call comes as more than 1200 properties across the city participate in Logan City Council conservation programs.
Landcare Australia chief executive Dr Shane Norrish said many landcarers worked quietly and consistently without seeking recognition.
“Every community has people who turn up, get their hands dirty and keep going because they care deeply about the environment around them,” Dr Norrish said.
“All it takes is one nomination for someone to be recognised for their efforts. This isn’t just about saying thank you, a Landcare Award can help elevate people’s voices, strengthen their mission and open doors to new opportunities. Nominating is quick, free and incredibly impactful.”
The council’s latest environmental levy report says 1234 properties are registered through its environmental conservation partnerships.
Those partnerships cover 6776ha of habitat and more than 71km of waterways.
Logan was represented in the previous awards round by Edge Early Learning Marsden, which was listed among the 2023–24 nominees for teaching young children about gardening, bees, composting and worm farms.
The awards recognise work protecting or improving land, waterways, wildlife and ecosystems through community projects, sustainable agriculture and environmental education.
Eligible nominees include Landcare and bushcare volunteers, Traditional Owners and First Nations organisations, primary producers, land managers, researchers, schools, youth groups and environmental organisations.
People can nominate themselves, another person or a group free of charge.
Nine categories cover innovation, sustainable agriculture, individual landcarers, community partnerships, Coastcare, First Nations collaboration, women in Landcare, Junior Landcare and NextGen Landcare.
Winners of the nine Queensland categories will progress to the 2027 National Landcare Awards.
Nominations close at 11.59pm AEST on Friday, 31 July and can be made via the Landcare Australia website.
Nominations require responses addressing the relevant category criteria, contact details for two referees and at least two high-resolution photographs.
