New tavern planned for Yarrabilba

TWELVE months is still a long time to wait for a drink, but Yarrabilba can expect a new $16 million tavern to be finished mid-next year.

Lendlease, which is managing the development of Yarrabilba community, made the announcement last week that the tavern would have dining, family areas, a kids’ zone, sports bar and large outdoor lounge.

There would also be facilities for meetings and functions, including weddings catering for up to 80 guests.

The McGure Hotel Group-owned tavern would be on a 4000 square metre site on teh corner of Wongallan Drive and Shaw Street, adjacent to Coles shopping centre.

With about 2000 square metres of floor space, construction would be a big job. When finished, there would be about 60 jobs up for grabs.

Lendlease development director for Yarrabilba, Michelle Wooldridge, said the tavern was part of a vision to create a self-contained community.

“The new tavern will be a major milestone for our community and a fantastic destination for Yarrabilba residents and others from the surrounding areas to socialise, relax and connect,” she said.

McGuire Hotel Group operations manager, Matthew McGuire, said the group was proud to be part of the Yarrabilba community.

“The tavern site, which is in a prime location to service the community, has allowed us to design a top-class facility that we feel the residents of Yarrabilba will really appreciate,” he said.

“The relaxed ambience produced by the design, with its attention to bespoke fixtures and landscaping, goes well beyond what is normally offered within a suburban setting and will be an exciting addition to our portfolio of 10 hotels in Queensland.’’
