Perfumery opens first shop at Rochedale South

A boutique perfumery has just opened at Rochedale South.

It’s the first shopfront for Lamaar Fragrances, which is named after the Arabic word for liquid gold.

Owner Aman Hussain is excited about the expansion, after starting a small online company selling fragrances in 2024, a decade after moving to Australia from India.

Mr Hussain comes from a family of oil manufacturers, with experience in soaps, skincare and fragrances.

He makes all his perfumes in Queensland, with a manufacturing warehouse on the Gold Coast, shipping in ingredients internationally.

He says his library contains around 5000 formulas, and he typically takes up to six months to craft a perfume from start to finish.

He currently employs around 10 qualified perfumers, including himself.

Using his family history and connections, he started Lamaar Fragances after completing his studies in Queensland and settling here permanently

Now he has opened his own perfume shop at Rochedale South, with the goal of offering luxury perfumes at affordable prices.

His original luxury scents range in price from $40 to $100, undercutting big brands that charge upwards of $500.

“If you go to the market, or the big brands, they’re selling their perfumes for over $500, $700,” Mr Hussain said.

“Our fragrances sell from $40, $50, going up to a maximum of $100.”

Mr Hussain said the community had welcomed him warmly.

“I’m new to the area — we’ve only been here for around four to five months. But it’s a beautiful area with nice, helpful and really approachable people,” he said.

Mr Hussain says his customer base has been multicultural, and that people want good perfumes at an accessible price point — something he hopes Lamaar can offer.

With his Rochedale South store at the core of his Queensland operations — conveniently positioned between the Gold Coast and Brisbane — he has plans to expand into other states.

“We’re trying to create a niche brand here that people think of when they want luxury perfumes at affordable prices, which they can reach easily,” he said.
