A petition is calling on the Queensland Government to fund a permanent aerial fire appliance for Loganlea Fire Station.
Member for Waterford Shannon Fentiman is urging residents to sign the petition ahead of the state budget, which is due to be handed down on June 23.
The petition calls for funding to be allocated for a dedicated aerial fire truck — a specialised vehicle fitted with extendable ladders and elevated platforms.
“Logan is one of the largest and fastest-growing cities in Australia, yet we still do not have a permanently based aerial fire appliance,” Ms Fentiman said.
She said these vehicles are critical for major industrial fires, complex rescues, and incidents involving multi-storey buildings.
Currently, Logan firefighters must wait for aerial support to be brought in from Brisbane or the Gold Coast.
Ms Fentiman pointed to a recent fire at a Kingston tyre shop as evidence of the gap in local capability.
“Aerial appliances had to be brought in from outside the city to assist our local firies,” she said.
“When emergencies happen, every minute matters.”
She said having the right equipment locally could mean the difference between containing an incident quickly and allowing it to escalate.
Loganlea Fire Station serves a rapidly expanding urban area that includes industrial precincts and an increasing number of multi-storey developments.
Ms Fentiman said firefighters at Loganlea had made clear that a dedicated aerial appliance would strengthen emergency responses.
“By signing, you’re sending a clear message that Logan deserves the same level of emergency response capability as other major Queensland cities,” she said.
With winter fire season approaching, Ms Fentiman said the timing of the budget presented a critical opportunity.
“Together, we can help ensure our local firefighters have the resources they need to respond quickly, safely and effectively,” she said.
Residents can sign the petition through Ms Fentiman’s office or via the Queensland Parliament’s official petitions website.
