Man charged after house destroyed by fire

A Canungra man has been charged after police alleged a house was deliberately set on fire on Wednesday afternoon.

Queensland Police said emergency services were called to Riverbend Drive, Canungra, after a fire broke out about 4pm on 10 June.

Police will allege a 34-year-old man went to his house and deliberately set fire to a mattress in a bedroom.

The man allegedly left the house before police found him a short time later on Canungra Street.

Police said the fire spread through the property and destroyed the house.

No one else was inside the house at the time.

The 34-year-old Canungra man was charged with one count of arson, classified by police as a domestic violence offence.

He was due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday 11 June.
