Man charged over alleged retail theft and fraud spree

A Yarrabilba man has been accused of a months-long string of stealing and fraud offences involving chainsaws, tools, camping equipment, fuel, clothing and a stolen bank card.

Queensland Police allege the 28-year-old committed property, fraud and traffic offences between November 2025 and May 2026.

Police said the offending included thefts from multiple retail stores in Springfield Central and Browns Plains.

The man is accused of entering a BYD Sealion at Yimbun Park in Sunnybank on 3 May and stealing a woman’s bank card, before using it seven times at businesses in Sunnybank Plaza.

Police further allege he stole clothing from a sporting goods retailer on Grand Plaza Drive, Browns Plains, on 4 May, before driving while disqualified and stealing fuel from a Yarrabilba Drive service station on 5 May.

He is also accused of stealing camping equipment from a Browns Plains automotive retailer on 7 May, and more clothing and merchandise from a Browns Plains sporting goods retailer on 10 May.

Police said the man stole a Makita blower and other items from a hardware store on Grand Plaza Drive, Browns Plains, on 21 May, before stealing multiple items including two chainsaws, clothing and paint from the same store on 25 May.

Members of Logan’s newly established Respondent Accountability Team arrested the man at a North Maclean property on 28 May.

Police said the team operates within the Logan District Domestic, Family Violence and Vulnerable Persons Unit and proactively targets high-risk offenders, locates people wanted on warrants and holds offenders accountable for outstanding criminal matters.

The man was charged with nine counts of stealing, seven counts of fraud and one count each of entering premises and committing an indictable offence, driving without a driver licence and attempted fraud.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on 3 July.
