How to keep warm this winter in Yarrabilba

With the temperature starting to drop, it means wintertime is approaching! If the recent weather is anything to go by, it’s going to be a cold and rainy next few months. Luckily, Yarrabilba has plenty of options to keep warm which suits everyone’s needs.

Warm up with some food

With a handful of cafes situated on both ends of Yarrabilba Drive, there is no shortage of places to go for a hot coffee with friends to escape the cold. Places like Café 63 or The Epic Pantry (conveniently located in the shopping precinct) are just some cafes you can visit to keep warm, both inside and out! If you are looking to take the whole family out for a warm meal, the Yarrabilba Hotel or the Logan Village Hotel always have events and specials going on, so you cannot go wrong. You can also head to 5Fold in Yarrabilba who offer hot meals and a chat for those who are doing it tough or just need a helping hand.

Family-friendly activities

School holidays start at the end of the month and EMF on Yarrabilba Drive has something for the kids. Despite being a fitness and recovery centre for adults, they also have EMF JNR, which is an indoor playground. The little ones can run around inside and not feel the cold, while you enjoy a coffee. Entry is from $10 per child and sessions have no limit, plus adults go free.

Explore indoor community spaces

While there are not many indoor spaces specifically for children in the area, The Buzz in Yarrabilba do have youth-oriented programs like their console gaming e-champs and will have more information on school holiday activities as they approach on their Facebook page. The Buzz also hosts events for over 50’s on Thursdays from 10am. A vibrant community centre, The Buzz is the perfect place to go to socialise with others and stay warm. In Logan Village, the community centre’s library, museum, and craft cottage can provide some warmth and things to do in the next few months.

Layer up for the cooler days

For those homebodies or outdoor adventurers, warmer clothes will be needed in the coming months. Dressing in layers, like a skivvy, t-shirt and jumper, will help trap heat and keep you warm throughout the day. Wearing a scarf and beanie will help keep your neck and ears warm, especially if you are going outside. At home, extra blankets and warmer bedding made of fleece and wool respectively, will be able to keep you warm while you sleep or are rugged up on the couch watching a movie!

Share the warmth

In winter, those without are hit the hardest. Donating what you do not need can make a real difference to someone. Items like spare blankets, jackets or warm clothing will see someone else’s winter become warmer. Local charities such as The Salvation Army accept donations in Yarrabilba for their op shop. A small act of kindness this winter can keep the whole community warm.
