Logan squad leads major drug operation

Detectives from the Logan Major and Organised Crime Squad have charged two men after an organised crime investigation targeting alleged drug trafficking across Queensland.

Queensland Police said Operation Yankee Mako targeted the alleged distribution of cocaine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine and other illicit drugs.

Search warrants were executed at two Currumbin addresses and one Nerang address on 13 May, where police allegedly seized 23.5kg of cocaine, 10,000 methylenedioxymethamphetamine pills, cannabis and steroids.

Police also allegedly found $60,000 cash, a money counter, prescription medication and encrypted mobile phones.

A 57-year-old Tugun man was charged with drug trafficking, drug possession, supply cocaine, possessing tainted property and possessing items used in the commission of crime.

A 36-year-old Nerang man was charged with drug trafficking, drug possession, possessing tainted property, possessing items used in the commission of crime and contravening an order about access to electronically stored information.

Both men were due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on 14 May.

Organised Crime Gangs Group Detective Inspector Craig Bowman said the operation had removed a significant quantity of dangerous drugs from the community.

“This operation has been highly successful, resulting in substantial drug seizures that underscore the severity of these offences,” Detective Inspector Bowman said.

“Thanks to the dedication and expertise of our officers, we have prevented a large amount of harmful drugs from reaching our streets and ensured two individuals involved in serious criminal activity are now being held to account.”

Police asked anyone with information to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
