Beenleigh man charged after Gold Coast intercept

A Beenleigh man has been charged with multiple drug and driving offences after an early morning vehicle intercept on the Gold Coast.

Police said Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch detectives intercepted a white Nissan Navara on Hope Island Road, Hope Island, about 5am on Sunday, 3 May for a licence check.

Police will allege the 32-year-old Beenleigh man was disqualified from driving at the time.

During the interaction, officers detained the man for a drug search.

Police will further allege the man obstructed officers while the search was being carried out before attempting to flee across Hope Island Road.

He was arrested after a short foot chase.

During a search of the man, detectives allegedly found methylamphetamine concealed inside his pants.

Police also allegedly found drug utensils and a large amount of cash during a search of the Nissan Navara.

The Beenleigh man was charged with multiple offences, including possessing dangerous drugs, possession of property suspected of being proceeds of an offence under the Drugs Misuse Act, driving while disqualified, possessing utensils or pipes for use and obstructing police.

He is due to reappear in Southport Magistrates Court on 6 June.
