Logan has emerged as one of Queensland’s hardest hit areas for wild weather, with new data showing the area accounts for a significant share of damage claims over the past five years.
Figures from the NRMA Insurance Wild Weather Tracker show Logan-Beaudesert has the second-highest rate of insurance claims due to wild weather in Queensland, with 10 per cent of the state’s claims lodged in Logan-Beaudesert.
The Gold Coast took top spot, accounting for 22 per cent of wild-weather-related insurance claims statewide.
Brisbane’s eastern suburbs and the Sunshine Coast account for 9 per cent of claims each.
Across the state, more than 40,300 claims were lodged for wild weather damage between 2021 and 2026, with storms driving nearly half of all incidents.
Hail accounted for 23 per cent of claims, while cyclones made up 14 per cent, a figure well above the national average.
The data shows wild weather is not limited to isolated events but is now a regular part of life for many households.
Statewide, 59 per cent of home insurance claims were linked to extreme weather, and 38 per cent of residents reported damage to their property or vehicle in the past five years.
Nationally, nearly 300,000 wild weather claims were recorded over the same period, underscoring the growing frequency and severity of events.
NRMA Insurance meteorologist Peter Chan said Australians were exposed to a wide range of hazards, from storms to cyclones, with conditions expected to intensify.
“In a warming climate, extreme weather events are expected to become more frequent and intense for many regions in Australia,” Mr Chan said.
The report also highlights a shift in community attitudes, with almost half of Queenslanders saying they are more concerned about weather-related damage than they were five years ago.
For Logan residents, the figures place the region among the state’s most affected, a trend that reflects both its exposure to severe storms and the increasing impact of extreme weather across Queensland.
