HomeCommunityRoof goes up on Beenleigh youth homelessness project

Roof goes up on Beenleigh youth homelessness project

The roof has been installed on a $14million accommodation centre tackling youth homelessness at Beenleigh, marking a milestone for the development.

The 30-unit project, run by Anglicare Southern Queensland, will provide housing for young people aged 16 to 25 who are homeless or are at risk of having nowhere to live.

With the roof now in place and most external work finished, construction crews are turning their focus to the internal fit-out of the building, which is expected to open mid-2026.

Anglicare Southern Queensland chief executive Sue Cooke said the milestone showed the project was moving closer to welcoming the young people it is designed to help.

“Seeing the roof go on brings us closer to opening our doors to young people who need a safe and stable place to live,” she said.

When finished, the development will include 24 studio apartments and six one-bedroom units for couples or small families. The site will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Residents will also be able to access support services such as mental health support, help with living skills and financial literacy, and guidance to stay connected to education or find work.

Ms Cooke said the demand for youth homelessness services continued to grow, particularly in the South Brisbane and Logan area, where there was a shortage of immediate accommodation options.

She said stable housing and the right support could help young people change the direction of their lives.
