Police seize 156kg of illegal drugs, targeting alleged bikie gangs

Police have arrested five men, including three from Springwood, who they allege are linked to Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMCG) for alleged drug trafficking offenses.

During searches of units in Springwood, Reedy Creek, Clayfield and Mermaid Waters on Wednesday, 4 February, police said they seized 156kg of illegal drugs, including 41kg of cocaine, 1.5kg of heroin, 35kg of ketamine, 12kg of MDMA and 66kg of methylamphetamine.

Police also confiscated several mobile phones, cash, prescription medications and steroids during their searches.

Police said the arrests were part of a broader operation, led by the Crime and Intelligence Command Drug and Serious Crime Group, targeting drug trafficking between Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Detective acting superintendent Brad Phelps from the Drug and Serious Crime Group said the operation was targeted and designed to disrupt “a significant drug network operation in Queensland.

“This is a significant quantity of high-harm drugs allegedly for distribution by an organised crime syndicate, with the sole aim of profiting at the expense of the community,” Mr Phelps said.

“Police remain committed to targeting organised crime and criminal activity that causes widespread harm to our community”.

Among the five men arrested was: a 20-year-old Springwood man, charged with trafficking dangerous drugs and nine other drug-related offenses, a 31-year-old Springwood man charged with trafficking dangerous drugs and 11 other drug-related offenses and a 28-year-old Springwood man charged with drug possession and a weapons offense.

All three appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday, 5 March.

Two other men, a 41-year-old and an 18-year-old, both from Mermaid Waters, were charged with drug possession and drug utensil possession-related offenses.

The 41-year-old man appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court on 5 March. The 18-year-old man is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on 18 March.
