Opportunity to double down on $135m sewage pipeline

The City of Logan will be eligible to apply for a share of $500 million in new housing infrastructure funding, following the release of guidelines for Round 2 of the state government’s Residential Activation Fund.

The announcement follows the city’s major windfall in Round 1, where the Chambers Flat Wastewater Treatment Plant secured $135.98 million in state funding — one of the largest allocations in the first tranche.

That project is expected to unlock around 20,000 new homes across Logan’s growth areas, including Yarrabilba, Park Ridge and Logan Village, by delivering critical sewerage infrastructure needed to support large-scale residential development.

The project highlighted the scale of infrastructure required to service Logan’s rapidly growing communities.

Now, with Round 2 guidelines released and applications set to open in the coming weeks, Logan City Council — along with eligible developers and landowners — will again be able to apply for funding for shovel-ready trunk and essential infrastructure projects.

The Residential Activation Fund is a $2 billion program designed to remove infrastructure bottlenecks that delay housing construction. Funding supports projects such as water supply, sewerage, roads and power — works that must be completed before new homes can be built.

In 2025, nearly $1 billion was allocated under Round 1 to projects across Queensland, with the State Government reporting the funded projects are expected to unlock land for more than 98,000 homes statewide.

Under Round 2, $500 million will be made available, with at least half earmarked for projects in regional Queensland. However, South East Queensland councils — including Logan — remain eligible to apply.

“I strongly encourage councils and industry with shovel-ready projects to begin preparing now for applications to open,” deputy premier and minister for state development, infrastructure and planning Jarrod Bleijie said.

The newly released guidelines outline eligibility criteria and application requirements, with a focus on projects that are ready to commence construction within required timeframes.

For Logan, which continues to experience significant population growth, further infrastructure funding could play a key role in accelerating housing delivery in identified growth corridors.
