Bulk bill boom: Find your nearest bulk-billing GP here

MORE GP clinics in parts of Logan are expected to become fully bulk-billing than anywhere else in Australia.

The electorate of Rankin in Logan’s north has seen 18 clinics sign up for the federal government’s new bulk billing incentives, which are rolling out this month and have been praised by a local doctor.

This marks the highest uptake in the country.

Not far behind is Wright, the electorate taking up Logan’s west, which has seen 16 GP practices submit expressions of interest.

Forde, which makes up the rest of the city, has seen 14 clinics sign up.

“We are number one in the whole country and that’s as it should be,” Rankin MP and federal treasurer Jim Chalmers said.

“I know that people are under the pump and we’re doing something about it by making it cheaper to see the doctor.

“We’re strengthening Medicare because more bulk billing means less pressure on families in our community.

“This means more affordable healthcare much closer to home for people from Calamvale to Rochedale South, Woodridge to Underwood and right throughout our area.”

Doctor Abid Majid from Browns Plains Medical Dental Centre said the incentives marked a step in the right direction.

“… helping to improve access to general practitioners and make healthcare more affordable,” Dr Majid said.

“These initiatives will not only support patients in receiving timely medical attention but also strengthen the sustainability of general practice, allowing us to continue providing comprehensive care to those who need it most.”

Forde MP Rowan Holzberger said the new scheme saw the bulk-billing rate in his electorate double overnight.

“I have never in my time in politics as an observer, or as a participant, witnessed a policy have such an immediate and positive impact as this one,” Mr Holzberger said.

“Out of 45 clinics, we started off with nine bulk-billing on Friday, but on Saturday that number has gone to 20 – that is an increase of about 19% to 43% overnight.”
