Louder and prouder than ever: Logan’s pride festival returning

Logan’s premier pride festival is returning for a second run following a momentous past year for the city’s LGBTQIA+ community.

In July this year, we saw local queer-identifying people and their allies march across the iconic red bridge in Beenleigh for the first time in Logan’s history.

Nine months earlier, Logan celebrated its first gay pride festival, called the Loud and Proud Festival, which celebrates all things LGBTQIA+.

The popular event is returning this month, with thousands of people expected to join in on the fun.

Last year’s festival was attended by more than 2000 people from over 50 postcodes spanning Logan, regional and far north Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

“We had families, elders, teens, first-timers, and seasoned queens all together in one space,” organiser Ali Strachan said.

“It was magic. People didn’t just attend, they connected in Logan – a place many never expected to feel so safe and welcome.”

This year’s event will feature all the same fun as last year’s, Ms Strachan said, plus more.

Held at the Kingston Butter Factor from 1pm on 11 October, the festival’s lineup includes live music from Worm Girlz, Majelen, Niko Martin, Love Thrills, Scarlett Gunner, Jaylee and more.

There will also be drag king and queen shows throughout the day.

Ms Strachan said organisers were keeping the festival free and family-friendly after receiving a warming response from the community last year.

For many locals, the festival was the first time they felt “fully seen”.

One local parent and attendee said their teenage daughter  “had never found her people” until the festival.

“It was wild to be in my local area in such a safe loving space, something Logan probably never realised it was missing,” another local attendee said.
