An upgraded Bethania train station will be elevated above Station Road to reduce impacts on local homes and businesses, according to newly-changed plans.
Before last week, Transport and Main Roads’ (TMR) plans for the station included removing the level crossing and building a road-over-rail bridge, as part of the $5.75 billion Faster Rail project that will upgrade the Logan section of track and stations.
Now, the designs feature new elevated platforms closer towards the Bethania Waters Shopping Centre.
TMR claims the new design will allow the local road network to remain “largely” unchanged, retain cross-corridor emergency access during flooding, provide easy access to the shopping centre, and reduce impacts to Noffke Park facilities like the community and aquatic centres.
Waterford MP Shannon Fentiman said the changes were “great news” for Bethania.
“This updated design will significantly reduce impacts on homes and businesses along Station Road while still delivering a modern, accessible and safer station,” she said.
“After listening to our community, I pushed for a common-sense solution and this outcome is a real win for Bethania.
“Thank you to everyone who added your voice. Together we’re one step closer to a better outcome for our community.”
