A MAN police allege was murdered at a Slacks Creek park last week has been described as cheeky and “full of life” by his family.
Another man, a 28-year-old from Slacks Creek, has since been charged with murder following search warrants at addresses in Bald Hills and Slacks Creek on 17 August.
Trevor Doyle, 29, was found dead on the footpath at Reserve Park by a nearby resident on the morning of 13 August.
Logan detective inspector Chris Knight fronted the media about nine hours later, saying there was enough evidence for police to “treat this as a homicide”.
“There are visible injuries observed by our forensic officers that certainly allow us to treat this as a homicide, and certainly an unexplained and suspicious death,” Mr Knight said.
“We don’t know [if it was a random attack]. But it is more likely… that the 29-year-old man has met somebody here and something has occurred.
“We have a lot of questions surrounding those circumstances.
“At this stage we can’t say how long he was at this park prior to him being located.”
On a GoFundMe page set up to raise funds for Mr Doyle’s funeral, his sister Zoey Doyle said he was “taken too soon”.
“Trevor’s passing has left our family devastated, our mother beyond heart broken and our family will now be missing a piece to our puzzle” she said.
“He was beautiful man, full of life, funny, cheeky and he had the biggest heart. He loved and cared for so many and so many loved and cared for him.”
Police were alerted to Mr Doyle’s body at about 7am. A crime scene was established soon afterwards and police worked to identify the man, who Mr Knight said was local to the area and known to police.
Mr Knight said several items had been seized from the park, but did not specify what they were.
“Whether it is relevant or not is yet to be determined,” he said.
Now, police are appealing to anyone who lives in or passed by the area, including the streets surrounding Reserve Park, between 7pm and 7am.
“We have a large contingent of detectives… trying to contact local residents to make this same appeal, but if you haven’t yet been visited by police, I ask you to please come forward and volunteer any footage or any observations that you may hold that could advance this investigation,” Mr Knight said.
He said the man’s family had been contacted by and were speaking with detectives.
SES volunteers who were combing the park and nearby area for items of interest completed their search on 14 August. Police said forensic investigators remained on sight.
Neighbouring residents told media the park had been used as a meeting place for drug deals in the past.
One neighbour said it was typically a “family friendly” park.
Police on 17 August said homicide and intelligence detectives conducted search warrants at addresses in Bald Hills and Slacks Creek, where a “suspect was taken into custody”.
“A 28-year-old Slacks Creek man has been charged with one count each of murder, breach domestic violence offence and drug offences,” a police statement read.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
