First Logan West Arts Festival to raise funds for “hidden gem”

An inaugural arts festival will be held in Logan’s west to raise awareness for one of the city’s “hidden gems”.

For years, the Logan West Community ArtShare Alliance at Hillcrest has been running art classes and fun programs for locals, and helping make the lives of others better.

Now, a disability support not-for-profit that frequently attends the art studios’s classes is helping run a festival in Alliance’s honour.

“It’s a hidden gem. Not enough people know about it,” Access Logan’s Katrina Puranik said.

“The ArtShare Alliance is not getting enough attention and we thought, why not put on a festival?

“They are running arts classes that are very affordable and accessible to the community.”

The studio runs a variety of classes covering a range of art mediums. And there’s usually something for everyone.

For Ms Puranik and her clients, it’s crucial they find activities that are all-accessible and inclusive. She said that can prove challenging.

“At these classes, there are no expectations that they need to have certain skills.

“It is just about having fun and being creative without having those set expectations, and so they feel empowered.

“It gives them a creative outlet, and social access.”

The Logan West Arts Festival will be held on Monday 22 September from 1-6pm at the studio on Orr Court, Hillcrest.

Entry is free and open to people of all ages. The festival is set to include live arts class demonstrations, live music, a sausage sizzle, markets and more.

Organisers say the event will be more than just an arts market, but a community gathering where “creativity, inclusion, and connection take centre stage”.

Those looking to host an arts and craft market stall, or an NDIS provider stall, can contact Ms Puranik via info@getaccess.au.
