Watch: woman allegedly found with knife at Logan shopping centre

A 39-year old woman from Kingston will appear before the court after she was allegedly found carrying a knife at a local shopping centre.

Police, who didn’t specify when or where, said they conducted 15 wanding searches at a Logan shopping centre and hotel. During one of the searches, police allege they found a woman with a knife.

‘Wanding’ is a term used to describe the process of identifying concealed weapons with a hand held metal detector, in the shape of a wand.

Expanded knife laws in Queensland, in effect from 1 September 2024, allow police to undertake wanding in certain areas as a prevention method to reduce knife crime.

Acting police inspector Warren Park said police would continue patrols in the community, as part of a broader Queensland wide crackdown called Operation Marshall.

“Carrying a knife in public is dangerous and illegal, and our officers are committed to keeping the Logan community safe by holding offenders to account,” Mr Parker said.

“We make no apologies for using our powers to remove prohibited weapons from our streets.”

The Kingston woman is due to appear at the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on 21 August.
