A NEW service helping parents and carers with young children has launched in Logan.
The YFS-run program, called Parent Pathways, provides personalised mentoring and financial support to eligible parents and carers of children under 6.
YFS, a local support organisation, says the program was designed to “meet people wherever they are in their journey” – whether they’re working towards study, work, or personal goals.
The free service is flexible, family-friendly, and tailored to individual needs, according to YFS’ client service manager Diana Townsend.
“Some participants have a clear idea of their next steps while others just want to chat with a mentor to discuss their options,” she said.
“Sometimes a parent wants to start studying but needs financial assistance to purchase a laptop or some help navigating the enrolment process.
“Other participants just feel they are ready for a change and want to work on a personal goal like getting their driver’s license.”
Only those who meet certain eligibility requirements, which includes being unemployed, will be able to access the service.
Ms Townsend said that with the cost of living placing extra financial pressure on families, Parent Pathways was an “invaluable” service for families with a parent or carer who may be considering re-entering the workforce, but who needs help upskilling with a short course, redrafting their resume, or arranging childcare.
“If someone chooses to participate, we work around their family commitments,” she said.
“It’s a very flexible service – you can take a break whenever you need and children are always welcome at appointments with you.”
The program is funded by the Australian government, and based out of an office at 1/22 Duke Street, Slacks Creek.
YFS claims this office is child-friendly with toys and change facilities, wheelchair accessibility, free parking, and is close to public transport.
YFS Parent Pathways mentors also work out of eight other locations in the community.
