A bargain early in the week

LET’S be upfront about this, $40 is not the cheapest steak in town. Nor is $28 for a pizza with the lot. Or $28 for a chicken schnitzel with eggs and onion rings as a topper.

They’re not bad prices, and what you’d expect at most restaurants around town.

But herein sits the benefit. When you get two for that price, the whole ballgame changes.

The $40 steak is a Black Angus sirloin from Jacobs Creek and carries a marble score of 3+. That’s a decent steak, even more luscious when two of them land on the table for that price.

With chips and salad, and a sauce of your choosing.

Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night, the Bull and Barra restaurant at Club Beenleigh offers two for one meals.

Maybe pair one of the hand-stretched pizzas with a slow-braised lamb shank or a seafood basket and share. That’s $28 for two for dinner.

You’ll have to pay extra for drinks, but it still comes in as a value option.

Don’t expect to get a seat without booking though. There’s usually a line of people waiting to order at the bar, and a full restaurant on deal nights.

It’s an expansive menu with a section for burgers, pasta, seafood, grill, and other favourites.

Meals are generous and given the rapid rate they’re taking bookings from 5.30pm until 8.30pm, it’s a pleasant surprise to get a smile and a joke from the regular staff.

Steaks come highly recommended, straight from the flame grill.

There’s a chicken breast with sand crab and king prawns, creamy garlic sauce.  Try this with a half rack of smoked pork ribs and that’s a very big meal for two at $31.

For an even lower-priced option, curry of the day is $24, which could be paired with a 200 gram steak or a burger of choice.

Salads are all good. Warm Thai beef has a sweet sauce along with marinated chunks of beef and comes in an edible basket. Salt and pepper squid, prawn and mango or crispy skin salmon are other salad options – all a meal on their own and priced beetween $21-$25.

The venue, albeit isolated from the pokies and bar downstairs, has a pub-like feel to it. It’s pleasant, and if the number of birthdays was any indication, is a venue of choice for many.

Food is quality, and plentiful. Service generally comes with a smile. And there’s lots of choice.
