Battery factory on the march

Lithium Battery Systems (LBS) has expanded their factory at Loganholme.

In only its sixth year, the battery manufacturer took advantage of the federal government’s research and development tax rebate scheme to develop its own technology to produce batteries for RV, marine, 4×4, golf carts and specialty applications.

“We are a poster child for the (rebate) scheme having developed a commercially valuable product that is now in hot demand,” operations director Spencer Smith said.

“We can barely keep up with production which has meant moving to larger premises in Loganholme”.

The company has over the past 12 months experienced increasing demand for lithium batteries, boosting the size of their team from four to 16.

They employ local people and source components from local suppliers.

“Australians have a renewed passion for buying Australian made in the wake of Covid,” Mr Smith said.

“Being forced to holiday at home has driven the RV, marine and 4×4 sectors into overdrive which is the main consumer of our batteries.”

The energy storage sector is alive and well in Australia thanks in part to US giant Tesla and the storage of renewable energy in batteries for the home.

Business development director Christopher Carrigan said the company was redefining what was possible with batteries and how they were used.

He said they were continually innovating and combining technology from various industries in new ways.
