The stories on page 1 and 3 of today’s paper seem very different – one about economic prosperity and the other about compassion.
They both point to change.
As people proudly make Logan their home, there’s a growing sense of community. We’re becoming a place which will no longer tolerate the bad eggs of society.
The retired nurse on page 3 tells how she’s noticing a difference in mentality. She urges people not to judge others by their tattoos or piercings.
Rather, she says to judge them by their actions. If we are to do that, signs are good that we are a community that cares.
Perhaps it’s true that our city was once a place where the bad eggs lived, and with that came a stigma.
As young families move into new estates, neighbourhoods and demographics slowly change. As more jobs are created, the economic prosperity of the region slowly begins to improve. As companies look to innovate and expand, the quality and diversity of jobs generates more interest and enthusiasm from people outside the area.
Blend these positive factors together, and the area becomes an attractive proposition to more people. It becomes an upward spiral.
We should be proud of our heritage as an area for battlers, home to the type of people who look out for each other, who have each others’ backs. That’s something this area should never lose.
The type of people who truly embrace those extraordinarily strong values won’t tolerate actions which take from others – their belongings, their liberty or their freedom.
Logan is growing up, and it’s wonderful to see.
