Logan resident Hanelie Lategan believes that taking control of your thoughts and your mind is the path to freedom.
“If you can take control of your mind and your thoughts, you feel so much better because you’re in control,” Ms Lategan said.
Ms Lategan works as a Chief Procurement Officer in the state government and is a keynote speaker on mental health.
Years into giving keynote speeches, often twice per year, conference attendees would approach Ms Lategan for personal advice. It helped her refine the presentation material and hone in on strategies to jump over common hurdles.
“The more questions I got in these conferences from attendees, the more I refined my presentation.”
It was these conversations that inspired Ms Lategan to write Unshakeable, a no-nonsense self-help book with a framework for mental toughness.
“People came along [to keynote speeches] and heard what I had to say, but they had to go home,” Ms Lategan said.
“The next year they turn up again, and eventually you build a relationship with them.”
“I would ask them why they’re back, and they say, ‘I went back home and opened up my email, and everything turned back into chaos again.”
Readers can refer to the Unshakeable framework anytime they encounter struggles or challenges.
“I realized that people need more than just a keynote speech and, you know, a motivational speech. They need a framework.”
Ms Lategan said she hoped the book would facilitate a shift in the mindset of readers.
“I want this book to help people build mental and emotional strength.”
“You know, sometimes it’s pressure at work, relationship challenges, or just that internal voice we all have saying that they’re not enough or they’re not good enough.”
“This book is all about becoming that kind of person who holds their own ground, even in chaos.”
